In the roadless isolation of a southwest Alaskan fishing town, I was raised on the salmon of the river, the caribou of the tundra, the berries of the bushes, and everything else from a can. Every summer I return home to pick salmon out of nets for both a reality check and a check with digits. The rest of the year, I teach high school English in a rural Kansas town called Lucas.

I started running marathons a few years ago while in college at Northern Michigan University, but I am not the only one out there running. Unfortunately prostate cancer does, too. Prostate cancer runs rampant and without a cause. Athletes for a Cure is the adversary, but we need help from you.
